C&D Productions was formed in the Spring of 2014 in Chris’ hometown of Kettering. Having wanted to start their own theatre company for some time, Chris and Dan looked at the local theatre scene at both an amateur and professional level and realised that few plays, especially the classics were being performed regularly within the confines of Kettering. One of the few exceptions to this rule is Bonkers Theatrical, who has been delivering hard hitting productions in nearby Barton Seagrave for some time.

Now armed with an exciting blend of classic and modern productions, the duo needed to find a venue, one that was willing to work with them towards their vision of providing accessible theatre to the local community. The answer came almost immediately with a meeting with the Kettering Arts Centre, based in the heart of the town. Agreements were rapidly met on access to rehearsal space, centre facilities and performance dates for C&D’s first two productions. Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’ was confirmed as a May production and Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ was given the green light for October. The pair also agreed to work on a voluntary basis with the newly formed Weldon Amateur Theatre Society for their youth production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to be performed in July 2014.

Key components that strike to the heart of C&D are the desire to encourage people in the local community to get involved in a variety of capacities and to encourage a new type of audience who have never been to the theatre before. Aside from auditioning to perform in the productions, people can assist backstage and throughout the rehearsal process in varying roles.
